Information Security Officer

Job Introduction

This technical role is to support the delivery of the Information Security Strategy across the BBC. The role is to ensure that Information Systems deployed on behalf of the BBC are architected and deployed in accordance with the needs of the business and according to Information Security principles of confidentiality, integrity and availability, and to assist to deliver the Information Security Strategy “Secure by Design” for the BBC.

Role Responsibility

  • Primary focus of the role is to support the BBC Head of Information Security Architecture to ensure that Information Systems deployed on behalf of the BBC are architected and deployed in accordance with the needs of the business and according to Information Security principles of confidentiality, integrity and availability, and to drive the business towards solutions that are “Secure by Design”.
  • Support the Secure Comms initiative in the Architecture team, including developing methods for BBC employees to communicate securely over electronic media
  • Realise the Information Security Architecture Strategy for the BBC through the implementation of secure systems architecture design working collaboratively within projects. Ensuring consistency with the enterprise architectures and supporting the principle of “Secure by Design”.
  • Leverage relationships across the BBC to identify and resolve security threats and maintain secure systems
  • Realise the Information Security Architecture Strategy for the BBC through the implementation of secure systems architecture design working collaboratively within projects. Ensuring consistency with the enterprise architectures and supporting the principle of “Secure by Design”.
  • Provide technical Security Solutions Architecture Consultancy to the wider Information Security team, BBC and its 3rd Party Partners to help design, deliver and implement solutions.
  • Review and improve Information Security guidelines and standards for technology devices and systems; Collaborate with other internal InfoSec teams. Apply these guidelines in your role.
  • Promote Information Security across the BBC.

Are you the right candidate?

Essential

  • Broad infrastructure and technology experience, with demonstrable understanding of security issues in critical environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Confidence to make decisions where appropriate and to ask for assistance when necessary
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work streams effectively and prioritise accordingly, seeking guidance when appropriate
  • Be able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
  • Highly effective analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Highly motivated individual with a genuine enthusiasm for information security and technology
  • Experience of assisting non-technical users with identification of information threats/vulnerabilities/risks
  • Understanding of the importance of information security to business
  • Experience of Information Security/IT Technology at a practical level
  • Understanding of the technologies and architectures supporting information security systems and workflows with a good grasp of information security principles and best practice
  • Proven track record of operating in time critical, diverse corporate environments
  • Ability to assist in planning and process improvement activities.
  • Awareness of IS27001:2013
  • Understanding of BBC business area priorities
  • Ability to engage confidently and appropriately with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ensure that Information Security policies, related standards and guidelines are applied effectively across the business and systems

Desirable

  • Demonstrable working experience in an organisation with a distributed hierarchy and using multiple outsourced support companies
  • Experience in developing business information reports in support of decision making
  • Demonstrable experience of writing operational information reports, documentation and standards accurately and to designated timescales
  • A willingness to pursue formal Information Security qualifications
  • Background in formal study of information technology, information security
  • Understanding of how information security strategy aligns with business and technology strategies
  • Previous experience of public sector and/or media organisations
  • Negotiating and third party management experience
  • Broad infrastructure and technology background including demonstrable

Qualifications

  • Relevant Degree in Information Security or related IT disciplines, preferred but not essential
  • Formal information security qualifications such as CISSP, CISM or CRISC preferred but not essential.
  • Other relevant technical professional qualifications preferred but not essential
