Insight Manager - Scripted

Job Introduction

BBC Studios is a global creative powerhouse for the development, production and distribution of bold, British, content. We produce over 2,500 hours of content per year, operate in 22 markets globally and generate revenue of £1.4bn, returning around £200m profit to BBC public Service each year. 

The consumer plays a vital part of shaping the world of content, their perspective counts. The insights team plays an essential role in driving the success of the BBC Studios vision, purpose and ambition. Knowing what great content looks like & how it makes  our end audience feel, no matter where they are underpins our three main objectives – powering up our content & IP, building & growing franchise brands and growing our share of customers.

This is an exciting role embedded alongside content and IP side of the BBC Studios. Reporting into the VP Insight for Content, this role is global in scope and is responsible for ensuring the audience is at the heart of strategic decision making for both our in-house and independent producers, focussing on scripted content: drama & comedy. The postholder must be able to forge strong relationships with both sides of our production community as well other parts of BBC Studios – including Content Sales, Brands & Marketing. As well, working in close collaboration other areas of Insight across BBC Studios including other members of the Global Insight Team, regional researchers, Content Planners and PS Audiences teams.

 

Role Responsibility

Deliver a sophisticated, ongoing understanding of the audience to Studios Production and our invested indies, across genres at all stages of the production process

Support our production community in developing great content ideas with a view to creating new global franchise brands

Be the champion & voice of audience insight across the production cycle including marketing & comms partners

Ensure audience insight helps defend contestable titles, giving competitive advantage to all new business pitches.

Oversee performance measurement and reporting for BBC Studios, which impacts on decision making at all levels of the business from the strategic to the tactical.

Proactively identify, execute programmes that deliver relevant actionable insights, leveraging all forms of research methodologies.

Spark audience inspired creativity within BBC Studios via imaginative communication of audience insight

Work flexibly across the scripted genre but also across regions & platforms, in line with business need to their understanding of the business for example youth audiences, BAME audiences.

Day to day management of one genre execs

Adhere to all relevant BBC safety rules, procedures and guidelines

Adhere to the BBC’s policies on diversity and to apply the principles of the policy when carrying out the role.

Are you the right candidate?

You can display a proven record of achievement in audience or consumer research and have the ability to turn insights into action within the 360 degree production cycle

You are able to devise new and creative ways of exploiting all forms of research data

You can take all walks of  research beyond data to insights and action using multiple datasets in one narrative

Builds and maintains excellent relationships with internal partners, wider teams and ventures including Content Sales & Investment

Able to simplify complex problems, processes or projects into component parts and explore and evaluate them systematically

Effectively shares knowledge, ideas and skills across the organisation

Able to present sound and well-reasoned arguments to convince others

Can draw from a range of strategies to persuade people in a way that results in agreement or behaviour change

Familiarity with appropriate applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Tableau – and excelled in using industry sources eg BARB/Techedge
