Job Introduction

BBC Internal Audit sits within BBC’s Quality, Risk & Assurance division which aims to keep the BBC safe, secure and well run. Our Internal Audit team ensures that the BBC’s strategic and operational risks are understood and effectively managed. Its remit is the entire BBC Group, including commercial subsidiaries. Internal Audit, via the Director of Internal Audit, maintains an independent reporting line to the BBC Audit and Risk Committee.

The Internal Audit Manager assists the Director of Audit in delivering a recognised BBC centre of excellence in the provision of independent, impartial advice and assurance on business risks and controls.

Role Responsibility

Take a leadership role in the timely delivery of a portfolio of audit assignments to be carried out by undertaking and managing the audits, using Senior Auditor resource and third party resource as required.
• Lead reviews focusing on the effectiveness internal controls and the management of risk, but also ad-hoc specialist review and advisory work.
• Take ownership of audit delivery from planning, through fieldwork to reporting, and obtaining buy-in from key stakeholders.
• Negotiate with and influence senior management in the development of appropriate controls responses. This is likely to involve being a single point of contact for areas of the business.
• Maintain knowledge of the BBC strategy, external and organisational risk environment and business changes to help inform audit approach and activity
• Act as a business contact in providing ad hoc and consultative controls advice to the business
• Lead or support* on departmental systems and reporting for the audit and assurance function, including audit committee reporting, action follow up, resource planning, performance reporting and third party management.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for the ability and assurance to deliver a range of audit activity under high quality standards and demanding deadlines in a complex environment, as well as:

• Ability to negotiate and work alongside a range of contacts including senior management and the motivation and energy to actively promote control improvements
• Substantial auditing or similar relevant experience, including the management of other professionals in the execution of a risk based assurance and/or advisory function
• Experience working in or with organisations of a comparable size or complexity to the BBC.
• Management of resource to deliver audit assignment
