The BBC World Service has grown its multimedia operations in Africa, the number of language services have doubled from six to twelve. This is why the BBC is investing in more TV and digital production facilities. The BBC’s digital journalism in Africa is expanding, and our ambition is for our content to reach underserved audiences such as female and younger audiences, as well as more diverse demographics across Africa.
As part of a historic and exciting expansion of BBC Africa, the BBC World Service established an editorial, digital innovation team in Lagos that has a mandate to create innovative and engaging digital content for African and global audiences.
We are looking to recruit an experienced journalist to deliver impactful digital features and investigative content.
This is an attachment / fixed term contract for 12 months based in Lagos.
You will produce, gather and deliver original impactful stories and investigative content for digital, tv and radio platforms. Your stories are expected to be published across 11 African language services and global pages. You will be expected to be able to report on daily West African news stories for radio, BBC News website and global tv outlets. You can also expect to be deployed to produce and report on feature stories, as well as news stories.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be an experienced digital journalist with in-depth knowledge of African news and international current affairs. You will have a strong broadcasting voice and a track record of accuracy and impartiality. We are looking for candidates who can write online text pieces and analysis, are able to report live on developing stories and have a thorough understanding of a young digital African audience.
Contract: attachment / fixed term contract for 12 months (local terms and conditions apply)
