Journalist, Baku BBC - Azeri Service

Job Introduction

The Azeri Service is part of the Europe Hub of Global News Language Services.  We have a small team based in London and in Azerbaijan. The Service produces a multimedia website,, which aims to engage an Azeri speaking audience, bringing relevant news focusing on an international, regional and local agenda. It aims to do this in a lively and engaging fashion through multimedia journalism, including interactivity and social media.

The successful candidate will be working in a multimedia team of journalists and reporting to the Azeri Service Editor. Shift work may be required which could include nights, weekends and public holidays.

Role Responsibility

You will originate, research, prepare, produce and present items, reports, packages, interviews, discussions, complete programmes, background pieces, analysis and news features. You will also report in text, audio and video from the field in a range of formats, including social media. You will ensure that any output material for which the post holder is responsible meets the standards required by the BBC. To deputise for Editor for periods of time as required.

Are you the right candidate?

You will have a full command and up to date knowledge of Azeri as first (or equivalent) language coupled with a good knowledge of English, including complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively.  You will have substantial recent and relevant full-time experience as a journalist, both in originating material and editing the work of others.  You will have the ability to write, adapt and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media, suitable for multimedia output. You will also need to have excellent knowledge and experience in working in social media platforms.

You will also have a demonstrable interest in working in a multimedia environment and in encouraging audience involvement.  Experience of reporting, in the field, on international and/or Azeri-speaking political and economics issues is also essential
