Journalist (Multimedia), BBC Near East - Turkish

BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences.  It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of 320 million globally, including TV, digital platforms including social media, AM, FM, shortwave, digital satellite and cable channels.  As part of a historic and exciting expansion, the BBC World Service is expanding its language services serving audiences in Persian, Dari, Pashto, Turkish, Uzbek and Kyrgyz.  The expanded language services will be based at BBC’s headquarters in London working closely and collaboratively with all Near East teams to deliver the best service for BBC audiences.

We are looking for a digital minded Journalist to join the team in London.

Role Responsibility

Working closely with other journalists in the Turkish service, you will use your knowledge of the digital media market to produce interesting news content for our website and social media platforms. You will report, present, edit and adapt stories and programme material for BBC Turkish audiences, in an engaging format which informs and entertains an ever-growing digital audience.   

In addition to writing and reporting you will also contribute to newsgathering activities, planning and research; working closely with colleagues in London and Istanbul to ensure that our news sites are updated and accurate. You may be required to travel on reporting or field producing trips.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be an experienced journalist with a track record of producing stories and programmes for digital media. A clear understanding of the needs and profile of the target audience and the ability to translate these into imaginative and compelling content, specifically with reference to social media is essential. 

It is also essential that applicants have Turkish as a first language and fluent in English, both written and spoken, and have an excellent broadcasting voice with the ability to perform with flair.
