Journalists, Ukraine Service (Freelance pool)

Job Introduction

The Ukrainian Service is one of 42 language services in the BBC World Service. It has a multiplatform website and a large amount of video, interactive and audio content. Most of the team are located in Kyiv, with a few Journalists in London. We are looking for casual worker/s to join our TV team in London. All candidates need to have UK Right to Work.

The service’s output aims to make international news relevant to the Ukrainian audience, and bring international perspectives to bear on Ukrainian developments. It aims to report in a lively and engaging fashion, and interactivity forms a large part of its content across all platforms.  

Role Responsibility

Joining a team of talented multimedia journalists, you will work on the first regular BBC News Ukraine TV bulletin. You will be involved in all stages of production – from research and storyboarding to editing. Working with different video sources, you will cover a wide range of stories, from hard news to in-depth analysis and human-interest stories.

In this varied and exciting role you will conduct interviews, contribute to originating and commissioning stories, as well as reversioning content and creating video teasers.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be an journalist with some knowledge of TV/video production techniques.

It is essential that applicants are fluent in Ukrainian and English, both written and spoken.

Finally, you will have a wide and up-to-date familiarity with the areas to which the Ukrainian service broadcasts and extensive knowledge of the media situation and the way it is developing. In addition, you will have an excellent knowledge of current affairs
