Job Introduction

With over 350 hours of in-house output a year, BBC Scripted Production makes some of the most original, diverse and highly acclaimed television. These range from continuing drama such as River City, EastEnders, Holby City, Casualty, Pobol y Cwm and Doctors and Daytime Series & Serials such as Father Brown and Shakespeare & Hathaway.

Role Responsibility

What will be expected of you:-

Working to Series Makeup Designer, the successful candidate will have a formal media make-up qualification, an understanding of the principles, practices and roles for make-up in television and film production.

Your duties will include:-

Interpreting the Make-Up Supervisor’s instructions and carrying out basic make-up and hair work for the artists, always adhering to and following the correct procedures for all hair & make-up continuity and applying a high level of practical make-up and hair skills.

The successful candidate will be required to carry out on-set standby make-up & changes for all artists whilst liaising with all make-up and production staff to ensure that all deadlines are met.

It is vital to always ensure to follow safe working practices that comply with the Health and Safety guidelines & legislation and ensure that BBC output reflects the diverse nature of our audiences.

Joining the Casualty Make-up team, we will provide more training in all aspects of this creative department. 

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following;

  • Formal media make-up qualification needed with a competency in Make-up, Hair and SFX
  • Evidence of Media, Television, Film or Theatre Credits
  • You will have a good understanding of the principles, practices and roles for make-up in television and film production
  • You will be competent with practical processes applicable to carrying out a make-up assistant role
  • You will be confident to carry out general make-up application and maintenance to a high standard within timescale
  • You will be capable of working independently using your own judgement
  • You will be confident to deal with actors and supporting artists
  • You will be able to effectively manage and prioritise tasks to a deadline
  • You will be able to efficiently work all continuity needs
  • Good I.T. skills
  • Hold a valid driving license
