Junior Software Engineer

Job Introduction

This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the world's leading news and media organisations.  The role will be within BBC News Design, the Junior Software Engineer will be a key member of a vibrant graphic design development team on English and non-English language Broadcast & video platforms innovating new, bespoke solutions while maintaining and improving existing systems.

The Broadcast Software Engineers make News graphics that function in real time, from standard on-screen graphics, to data visualisation, Touchscreens, studio screens, election results, data fed AR & VR 3D graphics and everything else that BBC News Design requires on it’s output.

Role Responsibility

  • Creating journalist controlled templated graphics according to a design brief.
  • To have creative input on complex projects.
  • Deliver projects in a fast paced News environment to tight deadlines.
  • Develop effective software that meets given specifications with review and mentoring by others in the team.
  • Help to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Learn and participate in the team’s software development methodologies such as code and documentation reviewing, and continuous delivery
  • Learn new technologies and keep informed of existing technologies.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a Junior Software Engineer with a broad knowledge of JS, HTML and CSS. Knowledge of, or an interest in graphic design, animation & news is desirable. You will work closely with other Software engineers, graphic designers and Creative Directors.
