BBC Global News (“BBC GN”) is the commercial arm of the BBC’s global news network and is responsible for BBC World News and BBC.com/news. Broadcasting 24 hours a day and reaching over 454 million homes in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide, BBC World News provides news, business, sport and weather, plus the best of the BBC’s current affairs and documentary programming. BBC.com/news offers up-to-the minute international news and in-depth analysis for PCs, tablets and mobile devices to more than 90 million unique browsers each month.
We are looking for an experienced lawyer to provide support to BBC GN’s digital consumer and advertising technology teams, with a particular focus on advice and support across consumer and ad technology, data protection, and general advertising/media sales support. This is a permanent role based in London.
Reporting to the Head of Legal & Business Affairs, you’ll work within a team that includes 3 senior lawyers and 2 junior lawyers to provide commercial, contractual, and regulatory advice to all parts of BBC GN.
You will principally provide support to BBC GN’s digital consumer and advertising technology teams, and will provide general support to our advertising sales team alongside a Senior Lawyer and Lawyer whilst advising on data protection and privacy issues across the business.
Are you the right candidate?
A qualified solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive (3-5 years’ PQE), likely to have been gained in-house or private practice dealing with the technology sector, ideally in the ad tech and/or digital consumer media technology sector.
A good depth of knowledge and experience of data protection and information security legislation and compliance is required, ideally combined with knowledge and experience of GDPR compliance across digital publishing. You will possess experience of dealing with and drafting a range of commercial contracts and tech licence agreements, along with a sound knowledge and drafting experience of other technology and outsourcing contract related agreements such as licences, NDAs and SLAs.
Confident in dealing with a wide range of legal matters, you’ll have sound judgment and strong analytical skills. Combined with effective negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills, you’ll possess the ability to establish and maintain credibility and effective working relationships, across a range of levels. This is a busy, fast turnaround department so your ability to make decisions, prioritise a demanding workload effectively and meet deadlines with attention to detail is essential.
