Job Overview:

We have an exciting opportunity for our newest Marketing Manager to join the BBC Studios’ Consumer Products & Licensing division, which helps shape and grow our brands and IP beyond the screen. We work across multiple mediums including Gaming, Live Events, Merchandise, Publishing and Home Entertainment.

The Marketing Manager – Unscripted, CP&L helps shape the brand and commercial strategies and marketing propositions for Unscripted Brands, informed by audience insight. The role looks to grow our Unscripted portfolio of brands, as well as new IP, in the UK/EMEA regions through CP&L businesses, and helps manage relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders across the business.

You can expect to be kept busy with the following:

  • You will lead the development of major campaign briefs to deliver against strategic objectives across multiple media and platforms, and support the Head of Marketing to lead relationships with stakeholders, shaping strategy and products. You will develop plans to manage key products/experiences through launch, growth, maturity and decline.


  •  You will develop the annual BBC Earth, Top Gear and Strictly Come Dancing marketing plans for CP&L within in the context of the global brand strategy working with colleagues to develop campaigns and initiatives that convert audiences into fans/consumers and drive them to purchase the product.


  • You’ll direct and shape the delivery of effective creative work that reflects brand guidelines, and ensure the annual brand plan and all campaigns are delivered within budgets and timeframes. You will agree targets for individual campaigns, and manage the necessary research in conjunction with audience research, and undertake post-campaign evaluations using appropriate analysis and measurement tools to ensure marketing informs product development and market positioning.


  • You will shape the evaluation process by leading regular reviews of campaign output with colleagues and stakeholders, and manage the budget for the brand/product campaigns to ensure delivery within budgets and timeframes.


  • You’ll develop relationships with internal creative, digital, comms and brands teams, content and production departments and external agencies, maintaining frequent and meaningful communications, and approve and ensure all partner campaigns comply and are in line with BBC editorial and brand guidelines. You will comply with all relevant BBC safety rules, procedures and guidelines, and be aware of responsibilities under the BBC safety policy.


  • You will support the Head of Marketing in the development and execution of New IP Strategy for Unscripted brands.


  • You will manage and mitigate risks and issues escalating as appropriate, and always think about the most efficient and effective ways to carry out tasks, providing value for money.


  • You will jointly line-manage the Marketing Co-ordinator(s) with the Marketing Manager - Scripted to deliver the Home Entertainment marketing plan and overall team objectives, setting out individual objectives, responsibilities and performance expectations. You will also deputise for Head of Marketing when required.


  • You’ll inspire the team to innovate, be aware of developments in marketing and technology/digital trends, maintain links with the industry and incorporate insight into marketing activity.


  • You will comply with the BBC’s policies on diversity and apply the principles of the policy when carrying out the role, and contribute to making M&A a good  place to work, attracting and motivating the best people.

  • You will have knowledge of the media industry and a keen interest in its output.
  • You’ll possess the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with senior managers across a range of disciplines.
  • You will have experience with innovating in digital and social media campaigns within the media industry.
  • You will have experience in licencing, and knowledge of editorial compliance and Fair – Trading policies.
  • You’ll be an influential individual, who can persuade people at all levels to build support for courses of action and will be able to anticipate the challenges and opportunities which arise from market place developments. You will be able to translate these into a coherent medium to long term strategy.
  • You will have proven experience of developing and implementing strong brand identities.
