Monitoring Journalist, Iran Team

Job Introduction

BBC Monitoring provides news and information based on our monitoring of open source media from over 150 countries in more than 70 languages. Our extensive operation enables us to provide insightful and reliable coverage of political, economic, security and media news. As a Monitoring Journalist, you will help us show not only what the media are reporting, but also how they are telling the story.  Our activities are undertaken by motivated staff to provide rich and meaningful journalism to audiences across the world.

Role Responsibility

As a Monitoring Journalist, you’ll play a pivotal role in meeting our customer needs by selecting news and information from Iranian media. As part of this process, you will also translate, edit and write material in English. You will sometimes carry out these duties within a shift pattern, often dictated by events as they happen, so we will be looking to employ your flexible approach. In recognition of all of the above, we offer competitive pay and outstanding training opportunities.

You'll also use and develop expert knowledge of new media in our target region, acting as an internal and external customer reference point. You'll ensure that the quality of your output is legally sound and conforms to our editorial standards. You'll anticipate developments in our region and contribute to advance planning of key monitoring events.

Are you the right candidate?

You’ll understand and embrace BBC Monitoring's purpose and vision with the ability to implement this into everyday editorial tasks. Alongside this you’ll have a thorough knowledge of written and spoken Farsi and English to a high standard with sharp editing skills. You must also be fluent in Russian, Arabic, Armenian, Azeri, Georgian or Turkish.

You’ll demonstrate in-depth knowledge of traditional and “new” media in the target area and will have an awareness of media developments globally. You’ll also have the ability to write, translate and edit copy accurately and quickly.

The salary will be up to £28,932 pa (including all allowances).
