BBC World Service Group is an international multimedia broadcaster, delivering a wide range of language and regional services on radio, TV, online with a big focus on mobile.
The Russian Service is one of the largest language services in the BBC World Service. It has a 24/7 multiplatform website and a large amount of video, interactive and audio content including two radio programmes. Its staff is mostly located in London and Moscow and a large part of the output is from the Moscow bureau.
The service’s output aims to make international news relevant to a Russian audience and bring international perspectives to bear on Russian and FSU developments. It aims to report in a lively and engaging fashion, and interactivity forms a large part of its content across all platforms.
We are looking for a Planning Journalist to join our team in Moscow.
Based in the Moscow bureau, your role will include daily and long-term planning for the Russian Service. You will work closely with the Russian Service’s newsgathering, TV/digital video, website and social media teams on original stories and on coverage of diary events. You will ensure that newsgathering operations in Russia and output across all platforms adhere to editorial guidelines.
You will be researching potential stories, working closely with newsgathering team, preparing deployments, looking for speakers and contributors and dealing with logistics as requested. You will also work with the rest of BBC News to ensure Russian Service plans and deployments are shared across the BBC.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have a demonstrable background in a journalistic role with experience working on planning and deployments. You will have proven track record in coordinating both newsgathering operations and output across all platforms, including TV and Digital Video. You will be a fluent Russian speaker and writer with a broadcast-standard level of English. An in-depth understanding of Russia’s history, politics, social issues and culture as well as the changing needs of the audience is essential.
