BBC Arabic is the largest language service of the BBC World Service, providing news and current affairs on Radio, TV and Online to Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East and beyond. The service is multi-media daily newsgathering operation for daily, weekly and long-term planning. BBC Arabic increasingly collaborates with, and provides material for, other language outlets and platforms. A major part of BBC Arabic’s output is made up of long form programmes, documentaries and investigations, produced in-house by the BBC Arabic Programmes Unit.
BBC XTRA: A youthful and modern pan-Arab TV magazine programme from Beirut is recruiting freelance TV Researchers, Producers, Senior Producers, Presenters and a Senior Series Producer.
BBC XTRA is the BBC Arabic’s weekly magazine programme, dealing with a wide variety of issues, from hard hitting social affairs to the effect of major news stories on people’s lives, along with news and stories from the worlds of culture and art.
We are looking to recruit three Producers to join our team in Beirut. These are fixed term contracts for circa 12 months.
Role Responsibility
Reporting to the Daily News Editor, your role as Producer is to prepare and produce material for the programme as well as reporting and assisting the Senior Producers. You will utilise a range of audio, digital and video equipment to deliver materials to the highest standards. On occasion you will be asked to report or produce from location or field on important events. We expect you to perform with or without a script, conduct interviews and chair discussions, as well as prepare ideas for digital products and social media platforms.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate must be a fluent modern Arabic speaker and writer, with an excellent command of English. You will have a journalistic background as a programme producer. Experience of originating and developing creative programme ideas and of dealing with live, breaking stories is essential. The ability to interpret stories for a non-specialist audience is important. You will be able to demonstrate first class editorial judgement at all times.
