BBC Arabic is the largest BBC language service, providing news, current affairs and programmes on Radio, TV and Online to Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East and across the world, 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The output is modern in style and outlook and adheres to BBC values of accuracy and impartiality. It has broad appeal, free from commercial, political and religious affiliations or pressures.
We are looking for two Producers to join the Beirut team. Both roles are fixed term contracts for 12 months on local terms and conditions.
As a Producer, we are looking for you to work closely with BBC Arabic bilingual reporters based in Beirut and be prepared to deploy elsewhere at short notice including to hostile areas. You will provide specialist and general coverage of events across the range of BBC outlets from BBC Arabic in English and Arabic to international and UK outlets. We need you to have excellent TV, radio and digital production skills and a willingness to work flexibly and travel at short notice is essential. You will originate and select stories and prepare programme material for broadcast, offering ideas and giving guidance to senior editors and programme producers. We also want you to produce items for TV, Radio and Digital using the appropriate technical and production skills.
Are you the right candidate?
The successful candidate must be a fluent Arabic speaker and writer, with an excellent command of English. Substantial experience in a relevant journalistic role with knowledge of TV, radio and/or online platforms is essential. You will have a full understanding of the needs of the BBC’s growing digital output in the Arabic region, as well as excellent knowledge of the political, social and economic issues in the target area. Knowledge of Iran and the Gulf is essential. Experience of international deployments and breaking news stories is important.
