Producer, The Archers

Job Introduction

BBC Radio Dramas Units in Birmingham and London are part of the wider Radio Drama UK community but come under the leadership of Head of Arts, Drama and Documentaries Radio. Based in Birmingham, The Archers is the flagship Drama strand on Radio 4 and Britains longest running daily soap having begun transmission in January 1951.

Role Responsibility

We are looking to recruit a producer with a demonstrable passion for broadcasting toThe Archersaudience, and knowledge of those subjects which fascinate, entertain and appeal to them. Reporting to the Editor, you will work as a member of the small dedicated team. Your focus will be across all aspects of the creative process of the programme; long and short term story planning, script editing and story research. For the right candidate, there may also be opportunities for directing. Youll also support the Editor and your Producer colleagues by sharing responsibility with them for a wide range of programme and production issues at this level. You must have an imaginative approach to programme ideas as well as a strong team sense with an ability to motivate and enthuse colleagues.

The Ideal Candidate

In addition to the required skills as outlined in the job description, you will have had previous producer experience and/or script editor experience in radio or TV. You will need a good knowledge of continuing drama or radio drama, and a passion for The Archers. Experience of working with actors and writers is also essential.
