Production Manager, Panorama

Job Introduction

Panorama is a ground breaking current affairs investigative series and we are looking for an experienced Production Manager with experience of managing a large portfolio or strand to join the team. Panorama produces some hard hitting investigations from undercover reporting to high risk filming in hostile countries covering a wide range content experience of similar would be an advantage. You will work closely with third parties and Indies that are commissioned. Panorama produces 39 half hours and 7 one hours per year produced either inhouse London, Belfast, Regions or by Indies. This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to join the team.

Role Responsibility

The production manager will:

  • Manage the financial and operational performance of the production(s), based on expert knowledge and accurate financial information.
  • Be responsible for scheduling resources.
  • Have experience of producing production start-up packs, budgets and will ensure resources and editorial aspirations are aligned
  • Be accountable for ensuring all necessary rights are acquired for the complete delivery of the productions monitoring the workflow via the Senior Journalist Team Leader for the archive team of journalists.
  • Identify training and development needs of direct reports
  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment at all times, escalating any issues or areas of concern.
  • Proactively look for ways of improving diversity within the team
  • Proactively seek new ways of working and embrace new technology
  • Ensure the production is as sustainable as possible and Albert Certification is attained

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an experienced Production Manager.
  • Have experience of working on a portfolio of output or large strand long form content.
  • Have experience of delivering a range of productions from complex international location shoots through to undercover filming.
  • Have experience of monitoring and managinghigh budgets.
  • Have demonstrable working knowledge of end-to-end production with a level of technical understanding to enable the most efficient production of content.
  • Have thorough knowledge of green light process, producing budgets and ensuring resources and editorial aspirations are aligned.
  • Have strong knowledge of rights clearances process preferably gained on output with third party funding and associated deliverables.
  • Be able to manage interpersonal relationships effectively and work collaboratively.
  • Have proven track record of being organised and responsive in fast paced environments
  • Demonstratestrong organisational and planning skills and have experience managingconflicting demands to meet deadlines.
  • Have strong negotiating skills, able to influence, manage and negotiate deals and contracts in line with BBC policies and guidelines.
  • Have thorough knowledge of the market for various types of supplier and resources.
  • Have an interest in News and Current Affairs
