We are looking for a strong creative leader to run BBC Radio Cornwall during an exciting time of change for Local Radio in England and we want a leader who can bring this to life at BBC Radio Cornwall.
This is a time of exciting change for Local Radio in England, with new leadership and a new vision. We want a leader who can bring this to life at Radio Cornwall and create a station that meets the needs of the historic county of Cornwall with its proud identity, culture, beauty and beaches. It’s also a county with its challenges and no shortage of stories.
As the Senior News Editor, you will be ultimately responsible for all output on the station as well as leading and inspiring the team. You’ll have lots of ideas about how to make programmes better and how to attract new audiences.
You’ll be responsible for managing on-air talent and for developing new presenters. You’ll make sure that the off-air team has the right skills to deliver what the station needs. You’ll understand the importance of digital platforms like BBC Sounds to the future of the station and the network.
You’ll want the team to better reflect the local community the station broadcasts to. You’ll be part of a wider team of leaders and will need to be part of collaborative working across platforms. You’ll also play a part in the BBC England editors’ community and the West/South West management team where collaboration is essential.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have a track record of leading and inspiring teams with excellent inter-personal,organisational, motivational and creative skills.
The ability to develop and bring out the best in others will be a key asset, as well as experience in developing partnerships with organisations outside the BBC.
You will have significant journalism and radio programming experience and a flexible and collaborative approach. You’ll need strong editorial judgement and an instinct for ways to reach different groups within the local audience. Additionally, you should be comfortable managing the station budget and adopting a strategic approach to its future development.
