BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra are based on the top floor of the BBCs brand new headquarters in central London its the building you see at the start of the 10 Oclock News each night on television!

Radio 1 was established in 1967 and aims to entertain and engage young audiences (15-29 year olds), with a wide ranging mix of music and speech. At the last count, just over 11 million people listened to us each week.

Our presenters include Nick Grimshaw at Breakfast, Zane Lowe and Jameela Jamil, who looks after The Official Chart on Sunday. We feature a lot of new music and look to support new artists from the UK.

Role Responsibility

Were also famous for live music thousands of bands over the years have recorded sessions at our Maida Vale studios, or performed in Radio 1s Live Lounge; while our own festival Radio 1s Big Weekend, attracts some of the biggest names in music this years event included Calvin Harris, Biffy Clyro and Bruno Mars.

We want our young audience to constantly help us develop and shape everything we do here at Radio 1 & 1Xtra.

You dont need to have had any radio experience to apply for this scheme, well help teach you the skills for that, but youll need to be able to show us that you are passionate about new music and youth culture!

The Ideal Candidate

Perhaps youve been making your own music show in your bedroom or are involved with your college or university radio station, write a music blog or have funded your own film- we think thats great and were looking for people with the get up and go to learn, explore, and do, who can share their great ideas with us.

We are looking for creative, brilliant people, who are passionate about radio, music and everything that appeals to a 16-24 year old audience. Were not looking for lots of qualifications, in fact there is no minimum entry requirement but you must be able to show that you have a big imagination and a genuine enthusiasm for exploring and pursuing a career in the media.

You must be over 18 and available to work on the dates stated. The placements are based in our new HQ in New Broadcasting House London. From day one we want you to become part of our team, so were looking for enthusiastic people who understand our programmes and are ready to contribute, research and develop ideas with our teams. We want you to help us shape our programmes and projects so that they appeal to and are truly reflective of young UK, we welcome applications from people from all backgrounds and from every corner of the UK

Package Description

You will be employed on an 8 week BBC fixed term contract.

You will be paid 250 a week which will be paid on the 15th of each month you are here, directly into your bank account.
