Reporter (Multimedia), BBC Russian Service
BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences.
As part of an historic and exciting expansion of the BBC World Service, BBC Russian is boosting its TV and digital offer to provide more mobile, and TV/video content and to further expand its social-media presence.
The expanded team will be based predominantly in the BBC’s Moscow bureau as well as in the BBC’s headquarters in London, working closely and collaboratively (including with colleagues in BBC News) to deliver the best service for BBC audiences. We are also looking for reporting teams to work in locations across the FSU, Russia, and other locations.
BBC Russian aims to deliver international news relevant to Russian-speaking audience and to put the events in Russia and the wider region in a global perspective.
The BBC Russian Service Moscow bureau is looking for an experienced multimedia Reporter to join the team on a 12 month fixed term contract.
You will report on developments in Russia and the region, from Moscow or other locations if required by Russian Service management. The Reporter provides timely, expert and authoritative multimedia news coverage and analysis across the range of BBC News outlets, fully observing the BBC editorial guidelines. You will work as part of the Russian Service and advise on news topics and events on a regular basis.
You will report on all aspects of political, commercial, economic, social and cultural life in Moscow which is lively and interesting and readily understandable by a non-specialist audience. The Reporter alerts editors to breaking news so you will be ready to file accurate, immediate on the spot reports. You will research, prepare and present interviews, discussions and analysis for radio, internet and other media forms. Broadcasting material in Russian and/or English is required.
Are you the right candidate?
The successful candidate will be able to communicate fluently in Russian (written and verbal) and have an excellent command of English. You will have substantial experience as a Reporter/Journalist in a breaking news environment, with experience in radio and online journalism.
You will have a strong understanding of the politics in Russia and also the cultural, political and economic factors which play a role in this society. Equally important is being able to come up with innovative and creative approaches to bring the audience to a closer understanding of this region. Your proven ability to generate original stories and special reports is also required.
