Research Executive 12 months FTC

Job Introduction

You will provide insight to support BBC Studios UK Content Sales linear and digital sales activity, with a particular focus on delivering regular insight reporting and analysis at a customer and/or market level.

The Research Executive will report to the Commercial Development Director and will have the opportunity to inform decision-making and strategy for UK Content Sales and BBC Studio’s wider UK business.

Role Responsibility

· Deliver regular monthly & quarterly reporting for the UK Content Sales team – providing critical insight on content performance and trends to support sales strategy and management

·  Develop and maintain content database across linear & digital portfolios

·  Manage external agencies and partners as required to support regular reporting requirements

·   Provide ad hoc desk research and data gathering to support UK Content Sales, with guidance from Insight Manager as needed

·   Under the direction of Commercial Development Director, support TV Sales’ Insights Manager in developing compelling market insights to inform specific commercial initiatives and our overall Routes to Market Strategy in the UK. For example:


o   Size and growth of the SVOD, AVOD, BVOD and EST markets in the UK and globally;

o   Drivers of change, i.e. new launches, content strategies, changing consumer behaviour; and

o   The broader evolution of viewing in the UK.

·       Maintain a close relationship with insight teams from wider BBC Studios and UKTV to ensure appropriate access to insight and data sources and to continuously learn and develop best practice


Scope & Impact

The Research Executive will report to the Commercial Development Director.


The role requires proactivity and a level of self-sufficiency - day to day guidance on reporting and deliverables will be provided by the Insight Manager. This role has no direct responsibility for delivering financials.


Strategic Planning & Decision Making

This role plays a key supporting role in the provision of data and insight to inform sales, investment decisions and strategy.

Are you the right candidate?

  • Experience in audience/consumer research (within media/broadcast industry advantageous but not a pre-requisite)
  • Confidence in management and analysis of large data sets 
  • Ability to develop, analyse, critically evaluate, and communicate consumer and commercial insights in a concise and engaging manner
  • Ability to problem solve – identifying and sourcing relevant data to identify key trends, issues and solutions
  • Knowledge of how to use industry databases and analysis software
  • Display high degree of numeracy, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective IT skills – able to manipulate databases and analytical tools and software.
  • Able to pick up and apply knowledge quickly and effectively
  • Able to build and maintain productive working relationships
