Scotland Work Experience, July - October

Job Introduction

BBC Scotland operates the regional variant of BBC One, as well as radio and television outlets, Radio nan Gàidheal and BBC Alba, which broadcasts in the Scottish Gaelic language

You will get the chance to work across TV, Radio and Online in different genres and across various platforms. If you’re interested in our placement and getting some great insights to add on your CV, you’ve come to the right place.

Role Responsibility

These placements provide a taster experience of working within the BBC and broadcasting industry. It is aimed at individuals who want to work in the media and would like to find out more about the range of jobs potentially available. You’ll have the chance to see television and radio production first hand. You’ll spend time with those who produce and co-ordinate the content across TV, Radio and Online. You’ll learn from the people who provide support across all aspects of programme making and transmission.  

The placement may involve spending time at outside broadcasts, studio recordings or in edit or graphic design suites and will give you a great overview of the various aspects of both television and radio production.

We want people who are creative, keen to learn and are up for a challenge. In Media we work in teams where everyone has a role to play. We’re looking for people who are friendly and good communicators.

We work at a fast pace. So you’ll need to be enthusiastic and motivated to keep up.

We take our jobs seriously, and really enjoy what we do. If you’re passionate about the Media industry and are prepared to, ask lots of questions and contribute ideas, you’ll fit right in.


You don’t need a media qualification to apply. You just need to be able to show us that you’re passionate about Television and have a genuine desire to find out what the industry has to offer.

We have placements available in the following areas:

Sport (Glasgow - over 18)

These placements are largely offered in Glasgow.   BBC Scotland Sport are responsible for programmes like Sportscene, Off The Ball and Sportsound, as well as News across TV, Radio, Online and Social Media.  Sports covered include football, rugby, bowls, tennis, shinty and others. 
Successful candidates will typically spend time with the team in their various taks, which could range from office-based research and planning, to shadowing reporters. We welcome enthusiastic candidates who have a genuine and demonstrable interest in Sport.

Kaye Adams Radio Programme (Glasgow - over 18)

Mornings with Kaye Adams- our topical radio daily strand programme - gets to the heart of the stories making the news, offering the listeners the opportunity to have their say.  On this placement you will learn how the team research topics, speak to potential contributors and write briefs. 

The Afternoon Show at the Edinburgh Festivals (August only - over 18)

During the Edinburgh Festival, The Afternoon Show will come from the BBC site at George Heriot’s School. The programme will be recorded in front of an audience, with Janice Forsyth and Grant Stott talking to the biggest names in town and showcasing acts from all of the Edinburgh Festivals.  The shows will be broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland and filmed for BBC Scotland. We are offering work experience placements in the lead up to and during the run of these shows. You will gain an insight into how the team plan the programmes, look after the guests, record on location and create social media content.  Time will be split between the BBC site before and during the show, and the production office.
