BBC Afrique is part of the British Broadcasting Corporation, the world’s largest public broadcaster. In Africa the BBC reaches a weekly audience of more than 90 million people on Radio, TV, Digital, Mobile and Social Media. We currently broadcast to Africa in English, Hausa, Somali, Swahili, Kinyarwanda/Kirundi, Kiswahili and Arabic.
BBC Afrique broadcasts on radio and online via www.bbcafrique.com to Africa from the UK and Dakar, Senegal. Our output is varied with a strong emphasis on regional and international current affairs. From covering breaking news, sport, arts, business, features and challenging decision makers to discussing the issues that affect the daily lives of Africans, our daily programmes are delivered across a range of platforms.
We are looking for an experienced Journalist to join our team in Dakar on a 12 month fixed term basis.
Based in our Dakar office, you will be part a busy journalistic team. Writing, translating and adapting material swiftly and accurately into French, in a style suited to radio, online and mobile journalism, you will also conduct interviews and reports. As well as originating, researching, producing and presenting items, packages and interviews, you will also provide discussions, complete programmes, background, analysis and features for a range of media formats
BBC Afrique is looking for a Senior Broadcast Journalist who will be responsible for editorial output and control, reporting, selection and compilation of material, production, leading teams and planning and implementing effective use of resources.
Are you the right candidate?
The successful candidate will be a highly experienced journalist, with excellent knowledge of Africa and an understanding of what audiences are looking for in multimedia news content. We are looking for somebody who demonstrates strong editorial judgement and solid journalistic skills.
This role demands somebody who can write creatively and accurately, and has an understanding on how to find and generate stories that can work across all platforms.
It is essential that the successful candidate has a fluent understanding of French and English (both written and spoken) and a willingness to travel as required.
