Inside Out in the North East and Cumbria is an award winning current affairs programme, broadcasting on BBC 1 in prime time in the region. The team has a reputation for headline making investigations and creative film making. The programme recently recorded its highest audience figures and is recognised for its determination to get answers for viewers. We have won a string of awards including RTS Best Programme awards. The opportunity has arisen to fill in on a six month attachment behind a producer who is heading to network current affairs.
A background in journalism is key to this role, with a track record in making current affairs films or special investigations for news programmes. Applicants should have experience in originating and carrying out investigations and be familiar with the legal and editorial issues involved. You will produce 9 minute films for a series starting in September. You will need to be willing to work unpredictable hours – but the opportunities for creative film making are huge.
The Ideal Candidate
Strong script writing and storytelling skills are essential, coupled with a practical knowledge of the legal and editorial considerations around investigative journalism. You should be able to directing sequences and presenters and apply a creative treatment to film making. Ours is a small but very supportive team – while you may work alongside a researcher you should also be willing to do much of your own research. Ideally you will be able to shoot your own material. A desire to work in a multiplatform environment is also important. We are looking for opportunities to produce films for digital outlets as well as feeding into network and other local TV and radio programmes.
