Job Introduction

BBC Radio Wales is the national English language radio station for Wales. We produce 140 hours of output a week, from production bases across Wales, with a broad range of content - including News, Politics, Sport, Entertainment, Comedy and Music.  We are proud of our high quality and multi-award winning religious and ethical affairs output.  In addition to serving audiences in Wales, through programmes such as Celebration and All Things Considered, our production team also deliver content for BBC Radio 4, including regular editions of Thought for the Day, Sunday Worship and Daily Service.

We’re looking for a Senior Content Producer to lead our religious and ethical affairs output. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead high quality and crafted specialist output. In addition to the leadership of the genre team, the Senior Producer will also play a wider role as part of the management team of BBC Radio Wales.

Role Responsibility

The purpose of the role is to lead BBC Radio Wales religious and ethical affairs output, contributing to the development and implementation of the departmental strategy and to help deliver new ways of working. In addition, to oversee the BBC Wales commissioned output from network radio relating to religious affairs. This role will be part of the BBC Cymru Wales Leadership Group.

The Ideal Candidate

You’ll be an experienced programme making professional, with extensive knowledge of the industry and subject matter. As well as knowledge of BBC Radio Wales, you’ll also need to demonstrate an understanding of the wider market and how best to serve our audiences. You’ll have a deep understanding of religious and ethical affairs. You’ll also require knowledge of the cultural and political landscape of Wales, possess strong journalistic storytelling skills along with sound editorial judgement and an in-depth understanding of the BBC’s policy and guidelines.

In addition, you’ll be aware of the importance of diversity in our output, have outstanding creative and editorial judgement. You’ll be a strong communicator, with the ability to engage and inspire both internally and externally. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing a range of individuals, including broadcasters, contributors and stakeholders.
