BBC News brings together Network News, English Regions and Global News’ English and Language Services to serve a large variety of audiences in the UK and around the world on many platforms.
At the heart of this structure, BBC Newsgathering provides news reports, pictures and audio material to all BBC News programmes and services both in the UK and internationally. This content is of the highest possible editorial and technical standard, which in turn provides the best value for money for BBC audiences around the world. BBC Newsgathering has to ensure that in the face of increasing competition, BBC News is the world leader in newsgathering and is at the forefront of both its editorial coverage and technological innovation in broadcasting and digital services.
The main purpose of the role is to provide quality, high impact and informative news reports and analysis across the range of BBC News outlets, for UK and International audiences via Radio, TV and interactive platforms.
You will work primarily with correspondents, producers and technical staff based in Mumbai, providing specialist and general coverage of events and trends across South Asia.
You will also work closely with Language Services and Monitoring colleagues to share information, plans and deployment details.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have significant experience as a Senior Journalist/Producer at network level, with a track record of producing original and high impact journalism. You will have worked extensively abroad, preferably with experience in hostile environments, producing crafted material for TV, radio and digital output. You will have a sharp journalistic instinct, knowing which stories to pursue for both domestic and international audiences. You must be able to demonstrate a detailed grasp of developments in South Asia, and be knowledgeable of the politics of India,
You will have successfully pitched, developed and planned your own original story ideas for both domestic and global audiences. You will be familiar with negotiating exclusive access, information or material and have a good network of contacts, both internally and externally.
You should have strong TV, Online, Digital and Radio production skills and be able to work alongside the Correspondents on the scripting, structuring and editing process. This role will involve extensive travel so a willingness to work flexibly and travel at short notice in what is often a hostile environment is essential.
