Senior Journalist (Field Producer), BBC Arabic
BBC Arabic provides news, current affairs and programmes on Radio, TV and Online to Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East and across the world, 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The output is modern in style and outlook and adheres to BBC values of accuracy and impartiality. It has broad appeal, free from commercial, political and religious affiliations or pressures. BBC Arabic reaches a weekly audience of approximately 44 million across platforms and provides one quarter of output across the entire World Service.
We are looking for a Senior Journalist to be based in Ramallah, supporting our Arabic Newsgathering team.
Reporting to the Assistant Editor, Arabic Newsgathering, your role is to research and plan deployments including preparing risk assessments, sharing editorial guidance, fixing logistics and overall budgeting in the target region. You will be expected to organise, gather, process and deliver multimedia output, responding promptly to news stories. We expect you to offer ideas for digital platforms and be prepared to be deployed to hostile environments at short notice.
Are you the right candidate?
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in field production and reporting, with fluent Arabic and English language skills. You will have a background in video and digital journalism. A full knowledge of news stories and issues related to the Arab world is essential. You will have an in-depth understanding of the latest developments in digital storytelling. You must have practical experience of shooting photo and video and a working knowledge of the relevant equipment and technology. You will have first class editorial judgement and writing skills, based on your extensive TV broadcast journalism experience. Knowledge of news and current affairs in the Palestinian territories is important. Strong social media skills are also required.
