Senior Journalist Reporter - Kinshasa
BBC Afrique is part of the British Broadcasting Corporation, the world’s largest public broadcaster. In Africa the BBC reaches a weekly audience of more than 90 million people on Radio, TV, Digital, Mobile and Social Media. We currently broadcast to Africa in English, French, Hausa, Somali, Swahili, Kinyarwanda/Kirundi, Kiswahili and Arabic.
BBC Afrique broadcasts on radio and online via www.bbcafrique.com to Africa from the UK and Dakar, Senegal. Our output is varied with a strong emphasis on regional and international current affairs. From covering breaking news, sport, arts, business and features to challenging decision makers to discuss the issues that affect the daily lives of Africans, our daily programmes are delivered across a range of platforms.
We are looking for a Senior Journalist Reporter to join our team in Kinshasa on a continuing contract.
Based in our Kinshasa office, you will propose, research, write, report and edit interesting and thoughtful, analytical pieces for broadcast or publication. You will meet the highest journalistic standards and fully observe the BBC Editorial Guidelines. You will alert editors to breaking news and be ready to file accurate, immediate reports as soon as possible. You will use all formats and platforms available to tell the story in the most appropriate way and to deliver our journalism to audiences.
Are you the right candidate?
You will have experience of live broadcasting including live breaking news with a good on-screen presence, microphone voice and the ability to communicate effectively to our target audience. You will demonstrate balanced and impartial judgement and make appropriate editorial decisions whilst taking account of conflicting views where necessary. Interest in new media, including how to maximise a story for digital, reporting experience and proven skills in generating original newsgathering is also required. It is essential that you have excellent skills (written and spoken) in both French and English.
