BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences.
As part of a historic and exciting expansion of the BBC World Service, the BBC launched a new Serbian service. Its digital offer covers international news and current affairs, as well as events and issues in Serbia and the wider region. The Service has an active social media presence and is part of the BBC World Service’s Europe Region.
We are looking for a Senior Journalist to join our team in Belgrade.
Reporting to the Service Editor, you will take responsibility for duty editing multimedia output for the Serbian Service. You will ensure that all output meets BBC editorial standards and is relevant to audiences. Your role will entail commissioning and editing coverage from editorial staff and contributors. You will be expected to provide input on the planning processes in the Serbian Service, making sure all key events in the region are covered. We expect you to take editorial responsibility for all content published on social media platforms.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in a senior journalistic role, with fluent Serbian and English language skills. You will have first class knowledge of Serbia and the wider Balkans political, economic and cultural environment, as well as the wider media market. You will have strong editorial experience of online and digital. Experience of leading and developing a team is important.
