BBC Kyrgyz is a multi-platform service, providing news and information to audiences on TV, Radio and Online five days per week. We primarily serve audiences in Kyrgyzstan, but also Kyrgyz-speakers elsewhere in the former Soviet Union and internationally.
Based in our Bishkek bureau, the Senior Journalist Team Manager will lead a team of talented multimedia journalists with a focus on digital content.
The successful candidate will manage a small but talented team of multimedia journalists to create engaging and informative news content for BBC Kyrgyz social media and digital platforms. You will work closely with news teams based in London and Kyrgyzstan to ensure that material meets the expectations of our audiences and adheres to the BBC’s editorial guidelines.
As team manager you will also be responsible for managing resources, staff, technical facilities and budgets, and will confidently use existing and emerging online technologies to their fullest extent.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have a high standard of editorial judgement, writing ability and production skills based on substantial experience in a multimedia journalism role. We are looking for somebody with a proven track record of leading a team and/or a project, who demonstrates a wealth of knowledge and a practical ability in using social media and analytical tools. It is important that applicants have a clear understanding of the target audience, the regional media market and awareness of Kyrgyzstan and its political, cultural and ethnic sensitivities.
A fluent understanding of English and Kyrgyz, both written and spoken is essential.
