Our 1830 news programmes are the biggest shows on UK television and our regional online news reaches over 15m unique browsers every week. But we want our great journalism to travel even further across platforms and ensure our digital and TV operation work effectively to deliver value for our audience.
During the pandemic our audiences have come to us in their millions getting news they can use from a brand they can trust. We’re looking for a leader who can continue to inform, educate and entertain our viewers and readers and maintain relevance in their lives with so many competing demands for their attention.
You will successfully drive a team to creatively tell stories for our audiences, about our audiences and by our audiences across TV and digital platforms.
In this role you will be working together with Declan Wilson, Head of TV and Online news, to deliver closer working across all platforms including local radio, making our journalism go further and delivering for all audiences.
You will ensure we use social media intelligently to find stories, and you will develop a relationship with our audiences so that they interact with us more on our digital platforms, and come to us with their stories.
As the Senior News Editor in the region, this role makes you responsible for managing a large service, a region, a programme, different platforms and a large team of journalists.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is passionate about news and can create, drive and deliver original journalism across all platforms. You should be able to demonstrate senior level news leadership experience as well as experience of delivering continuous change in a regional newsroom environment.
In order to successfully achieve the development of our digital platforms, you should be able to demonstrate working knowledge & understanding of digital content plus data analytics and have the ability to connect this with our audience engagement.
Excellent leadership is key in this role. We are looking for a collaborative leader who manages & develops key/senior talent and fosters a progressive & collaborative environment within the newsroom.
Financial management is essential and you should be able to demonstrate experience of managing budgets.
