Senior Programming Manager, Comedy (Digital)

The way we consume content is everchanging and we are building a new agile team to adapt and drive forward a new strategy in a diverse and highly fragmented market. As a Senior Programming Manager in the Scripted team you will be a key part of the Global Digital Consumer Engagement team. The Digital Consumer Engagement team’s purpose is to build addressable audiences across social, audio, web and CRM. We curate and commission content that captivates audiences and delivers attribution back to BBC brands, franchises and branded services – with the ultimate goal of driving both direct and indirect revenue for BBC Studios.

We’re looking for a second Senior Programming Manager to join the Scripted team. They will support the Head of Programming and lead on the overall creation of genre strategy, with a particular focus on comedy, including commissioning digital original content as well as overseeing individual title and campaign strategies. The Senior Programming Manager will also be responsible for coordinating with senior stakeholders outside of the digital team - including marketing and production - on new business opportunities and priorities that will inform the genre and AVOD strategy.

Role Responsibility

Lead on overall creation of genre strategy, alongside Head of Programming and the second Senior Programming Manager.

Take ownership of/oversee comedy strategy projects or campaigns ensuring creative solutions are aligned to strategy & brief – working with the Head of Programming to clearly outline objectives.

Ensure commercial and partner plans are translated into genre and sub-genre strategies.

Lead genre strategy for comedy for brand funded/sponsored content.

Lead on commercial projects for comedy, working closely with the commercial team.

Editorial oversight of publishing activity across comedy branded channels (including Social, Web, CRM) ensuring activity is aligned to overall brand and genre priorities.

Lead on KPI setting for comedy, aligning with Head of Programming on genre and department objectives.

Oversee content optimisations and learnings with Programming Manager and Senior Exec/Execs.

Line management responsibility for Exec/Senior Exec, including managing work, mentoring development, monitoring quality and developing personal development plans.

The Ideal Candidate

You have a proven background in content creation and creativity within a digital space, with experience building a strategic plan with a digital focus including measurable KPIs.

You are able to execute against a strategy, ensuring that it is delivered to plan.

You have excellent knowledge of digital landscape and experience managing global digital channels (Social, AVOD, Web, CRM).

You have experience of building and engaging online audiences with a strong editorial sense and ability to develop content ideas. You have expertise in analytics tools, campaign measurement and tracking data trends to implement a test and learn approach.

You have strong presentation and communication skills, are self-sustaining, resilient and proactive. Able to manage self and others within a complex matrix environment with shared responsibilities across BBC group.

You have a passion for TV, innovative digital brands and online publishers.
