Staff Scheduler, BBC Scotland

Job Introduction

The Operations and Engineering department is part of BBC Scotland and maintains and manages technical facilities and craft resources that include Studios, Outside Broadcast facilities, portable Cameras, Edit and Dubbing suites.

This role sits within the Operations department which provide technical facilities and resources to Production teams from within BBC Scotland and also to external Production teams.

This role is responsible for organising the logistical deployment of over 100 technical craft staff across Television, Radio and Post Production working closely with the wider Operations ensuring programme requirements are delivered to an exceptional standard.

Role Responsibility

Responsibility for scheduling staff and facilities, within a team, carrying out the various tasks associated with this function.

This will include issuing and processingrotas, timesheets and other paperwork ensuring that it is issued accurately and in a timely manner, recording actual time worked for staff ensuring utilisation targets areachieved and recording leave, sickness and other absences.

You will be required to schedulefacilities and equipmentwhere appropriate and ensure that any changes to staff working schedules are communicated appropriately using various methods.

You will forge a strong day to day working relationship withtechnical staff in terms of understanding the programme schedules, staff planning and resource requirements over the course of a programme.

You will make effective decisions with regard to hiring freelance staff paying attentionto agreed rates with a full understanding of regulations in regard to employment and tax status using the Smartbook system to pay freelance staff.

You will provide information to support management reporting on an ongoing basis identifying training and development needs, performance issues and skills gaps.

Are you the right candidate?

We are looking for someone who has a good general knowledge of programme making techniques and facilities, knowledge of Microsoft Office products including excel and word, excellent communications skills and the ability to influence others whom is also a team player with drive, energy and enthusiasm.

You should have the ability to organise and prioritise a variable workload alongside the ability to deal with a wide range of people with confidence, tact and diplomacy.

Experience of using scheduling systems and experience in scheduling or working in a programme making environment would be advantageous.

Package Description

Grade: 5D / Proposed Band B

Based Glasgow
