Work Experience Opportunities in Regions within Television & Digital Content - July to October 2019

Welcome to Work Experience opportunities across the regions within Television. If you’re interested in Arts, Science & History, Documentaries & Specialist Features, Drama, Factual & Entertainment and getting some great insights to add to your CV, you’ve come to the right place.

The BBC is responsible for a large volume of TV including programmes such  See Hear & Look North

Role Responsibility

Every placement is different, but your Work Experience will give you a good all round overview of production. You could learn how our teams conduct with research, learning how a studio operates,you may also get to see outside broadcasts and how a live studio operates. You may get the chance to watch programmes go out on air scheduling and broadcasting.

We work at a fast pace, so you’ll need to be enthusiastic and motivated to keep up.

Background/Experience

You don’t need a media qualification to apply. You just need to be able to show us that you’re passionate about Television and have a genuine desire to find out what the industry has to offer.

We have placements available in the following areas:

BBC East Midlands – Digital Team, Nottingham (September or October only - over 18)

A placement with the BBC East Midlands digital team is a great way to get an overview of Journalism. Your two weeks will be spent gaining a real understanding of news and current affairs across our three counties. Successful candidates will gain an insight to how the team write news articles, film digital video and also shadowing key members of the news team

BBC Three, Birmingham (over 18)

The BBC Three team in Birmingham creates short-form and long-form content for BBC Three’s social media and digital channels and we’re offering a placement for an enthusiastic individual who loves being creative, having fresh ideas and making their own short-form content. The successful person will spend time with our development and production teams.
Candidates should have an interest in and knowledge of BBC Three content and its audience, be excited by content production and the creative process and be a good team player.  The successful candidate will gain a valuable understanding of how we produce content for our social media platforms, joining editorial meetings and also giving us feedback on BBC Three.

BBC Inside Out, Leeds (over 18)

This placement is based in Leeds, and is an opportunity for someone to gain experience with an award winning documentary department.  We make the regional current affairs programme Inside Out. We also produce occasional longer form documentaries for BBC2 and BBC4.  The placement should give you experience of the whole production process, from research and location filming through to the edit suite.

Look North, Leeds (over 18)

BBC Look North is the most watched regional news programme in Yorkshire. This is an ideal work experience placement for candidates with an interest in regional news. During your time at Look North, you will watch packages being produced from research through to production. You will learn how the planning team research stories. You will spend time in the gallery, watching the programme go out; and you will also get the chance to go out on the road with one of our reporters or video journalists.

See Hear – BBC Studios Unscripted, Bristol (over 18)

BBC Two’s long running magazine show for Deaf and hard-of-hearing people is offering a work experience opportunity for someone who would like to gain an overview in all aspects of the production process. During their placement the successful applicant will shadow the team as they go through the casting process, source materials and learn the process of setting up shoots. We particularly welcome applications from people with a knowledge of British Sign Language, as many of our production team communicate using BSL

See Hear - TV Production Admin Support (over 18)

BBC Two’s long running magazine show for Deaf and hard-of-hearing people is offering a work experience opportunity for someone who would like to gain an overview in all aspects of the production process. During their placement the successful applicant will learn how the Production team operate, shadow the team in studio or sometimes on location and learn the process of setting up shoots, booking accommodation and travel. We particularly welcome applications from people with a knowledge of British Sign Language, as many of our production team com

South TV News - Journalism (over 18)

Successful applicants will gain an insight into the work of a busy multi-media newsroom and be able to follow the production process. There will be opportunities to spend time with Senior Broadcast Journalists on various newsroom shifts; watch the programme go out live from the gallery; follow a reporter; and watch the filmed piece being edited and prepared for broadcast.  There will also be a chance to see how our online, social media and radio teams work.
