Welcome to Work Experience opportunities in Salford within Radio. If you’re interested in Radio Production, Music and Religion & Ethics and getting some great practical experience on your CV, you’ve come to the right place.

Role Responsibility

Every placement is different, but your Work Experience will give you a good all round overview of production. You could be helping with research, learning how a studio operates working on outside broadcasts and in a live studio. You may get the chance to watch programmes go out on air and understand the processes for commissioning, producing, scheduling and broadcasting.

We work at a fast pace. So you’ll need to be enthusiastic and motivated to keep up.

You don’t need a media qualification to apply. You just need to be able to show us that you’re passionate about Radio and have a genuine desire to find out what the industry has to offer.

We have placements available in the following areas:

Radio 3 (over 18)

Radio 3 Production is the major supplier of programmes to Radio 3.  This work experience opportunity would suit someone with a strong interest in Classical, Jazz or World Music radio programming or music events and a passion for sharing music with the audience.

Radio Drama North (over 18)

If you love listening to Radio Drama maybe this is the placement for you. In Radio Drama Salford we make 40 hours of output a year for Radio 4 and Radio 3 with a core team of 10 staff. Returning strands include Darleen Fyles, Brief Lives and Stone, plus many other programmes for all the Radio 4 drama slots and Drama on 3. This is an opportunity to be mentored by our team of Production Co-ordinators in all aspects of the work that they do from contracting talent to timing the takes in studio.

Radio Production North, Factual (over 18)

Radio Production North (Factual), work alongside the Production Co-ordinators supporting live broadcasts of You & Yours - collating scripts, studio timings, studio bookings and assisting the production teams on pre-recorded output like Pick of the Week and Radio 3’s The Verb.

Religion & Ethics Radio (over 18)

Experience may include a variety of production support tasks including general administration; music reporting; assisting researchers with fact finding.  There may be opportunities to attend live studios (radio), location broadcasts and recording/editing sessions.
