Welcome to Work Experience opportunities in Salford within Television. Whether you’re interested in Children's, Sport, and Learning and getting some great insights to add to your CV, you’ve come to the right place.
The BBC is responsible for a significant volume of TV across channels such as CBBC and programmes such as Rip Off Britain
Every placement is different, but your Work Experience will give you a good all round overview of production. You could learn how our teams conduct research, or how studio operates. You could even see what we do on an outside broadcasts and how a live studios operate. You could get a chance to watch progammes go out on air and understand the processes for commissioning, producing, scheduling and broadcasting.
During your online application, you will have the opportunity to choose your placement and tell us about the things you’re really interested in.

What we’re looking for
We want people who are creative, keen to learn and are up for a challenge. In Television we work in teams where everyone has a role to play. We’re looking for people who are friendly and good communicators.
We work at a fast pace. So you’ll need to be enthusiastic and motivated to keep up.
We take our jobs seriously and really enjoy what we do. If you’re passionate about Television and are prepared to ask lots of questions and contribute ideas, you’ll fit right in.
You don’t need a media qualification to apply. You just need to be able to show us that you’re passionate about Television and have a genuine desire to find out what the industry has to offer.

We have placements available in the following areas:
BBC Children’s Production (over 18)
These general production placements are offered across whole of CBBC and CBeebies – including factual, entertainment and news. You will get a feel for the production process and have the opportunity to try out or shadow a wide range of activities in the office or in studio. We welcome enthusiastic candidates who have an interest in programme-making and children’s TV, including those with a particular interest in Production Management
BBC Children’s Design Teams (over 18)
You’ll be learning to buy, design and make the set dressings which bring Children’s productions to life whilst gaining an insight into the role of the design team in television. Placements are offered across the whole of Children’s, including on factual and entertainment commissions, on-screen presentation and more. You will particularly enjoy this experience if you have an art or design background and an interest in theatre, film or television design.
BBC Children’s Interactive (over 18)
You’ll be joining one of our Interactive teams who create fantastic interactive content for our young audience, including our flagship apps and games as well as our websites and Youtube channels. We welcome enthusiastic candidates with a strong interest in digital content and an interest in developing skills in Photoshop, graphic design, CMS, Youtube, apps, etc. film or television design
Discovery Team, CBBC (September & October Only – Over 18)
If you’re the one who always organises the big night out, can’t help getting involved in the details of every life event, loves to share life-hacks and like new systems and apps, then come and join the Discovery Production Management team! You will get the chance to get an insight on CBeebies and CBBC presentation, Newsround Digital and TV teams, Website and Planning teams. Experience how we create schedules, budget for programmes, set up shoots, deal with rights management and find creative ways to solve practical problems
BBC Education: Teach Campaign - Social Media (September only - over 18)
If you’ve revised with Bitesize attended the Radio 1 Academy or joined in with a Live Lesson the chances are you’ve already seen and used Education’s content. The Teach team is creating pilots, drawing on high-profile talent to deliver learning direct to the classroom or staff room. You will shadow work across Teach social media platforms and the Roald Dahl Day live pilot. This placement would suit someone with an interest in creative writing and short form digital content
BBC Education: Teach Campaign – Content Creation (August & September only - over 18)
If you’ve revised with Bitesize attended the Radio 1 Academy or joined in with a Live Lesson the chances are you’ve already seen and used Education’s content. The Teach team is creating pilots, drawing on high-profile talent to deliver learning direct to the classroom or staff room. You will shadow work on digital content production. This placement would suit someone with an interest in programme making especially in short form
Education: Music Campaign – Production Management (August & September only - over 18)
If you’ve revised with Bitesize attended the Radio 1 Academy or joined in with a Live Lesson the chances are you’ve already seen and used Education’s content. The Music campaign has the aim of making every child a musician. We are championing the benefits of music education to children, schools, teachers, parents and their families. You will shadow the work of the production management team either during live events, filming and post production.
Sunday Morning Live (July, September & October only - over 18)
An exciting opportunity to join the VT team working on the inserts into a live show. You may experience assisting the team contributing ideas, shadowing as we set up location filming or helping with forward planning for future VTs.
BBC Sport (over 18)
Placements are offered across a variety of areas of Sport in editorial, production management and journalism roles – you may end up shadowing in any of our TV, Multimedia, News or Online teams and across numerous sports such as Football, Athletics or Rugby. We welcome enthusiastic candidates who have an interest in Sport, journalism and programme making.

Please remember that we receive a lot of applications and we can’t offer a placement to everyone.
