Extendee - Broadcast Journalist Online, BBC Sport NI

Job Introduction

BBC Sport NI provides the latest news plus live scores, fixtures, results, tables, video, audio, blogs and analysis for all major UK and international leagues.

Role Responsibility

You'll initiate and produce, as part of a team, a wide variety of sports material for BBC Sport NI online and interactive services. This will include writing material for previews, match reports, features, interview based pieces, and providing live score updates. You'll also originate and develop feature ideas; to assist in forward planning of material for future content, as well as providing briefings for reporters, camera crews and other resources staff and contributors.

The Ideal Candidate

We need you to have either a recognised journalistic qualification or substantial practical experience in journalism. With your extensive knowledge of sport, locally in Northern Ireland, nationally and internationally, you'll have first class news judgement and the ability to originate and develop stories. Along with your good writing skills, you'll also have the ability to work co-operatively as part of a small team.

Extend – BBC Disability Scheme


Exclusively for disabled people, Extend is an award-winning, BBC-wide work placement scheme which offers appropriately experienced and/or qualified people a great opportunity to gain six months’ paid work experience within the BBC.

Although the scheme doesn’t necessarily lead to a full-time job, last year 70% gained further work at the BBC.

From October 2014, 12 placements will be available across the UK, in both programming areas and programme support areas. You’ll need to match the criteria for the placement as well as demonstrate a keen interest in broadcasting and knowledge of BBC output.
