Welcome to Work Experience opportunities in London within Television. If you’re interested in Arts, Science & History, Documentaries & Specialist Features, Drama, and Factual & Entertainment and getting some great practical experience on your CV, you’ve come to the right place.

The BBC is responsible for a large volume of TV including programmes such as The One Show and Horizon.

Role Responsibility

Every placement is different, but your Work Experience will give you a good all round overview of production. You could be helping with research, learning how a studio operates, and working on outside broadcasts and in a live studio. You may get the chance to watch programmes go out on air and understand the processes for commissioning, producing, scheduling and broadcasting.

Background/Experience

You don’t need a media qualification to apply. You just need to be able to show us that you’re passionate about Television and have a genuine desire to find out what the industry has to offer.

We have placements available in the following areas:

Entertainment and Events (over 18)

You'll work alongside the production team helping with basic research work, undertaking day to day office duties whilst working alongside the production runner. There may also be opportunities to accompany teams on location shoots.

Factual London - Arts (over 18)

Arts offer experience in the day to day running of the programmes that will be in production at that time. This will involve accompanying teams on location, basic research work, running for the office team, transcribing interviews, etc. Being interested in the administration and

Factual London - History & Business (over 18)

History & Business offer an opportunity to assist the production teams. This is likely to involve basic research work, running for the office team, transcribing interviews, and possibly accompanying teams on location. Being interested in gaining an overview of the production process is an advantage.

Factual London - Science (over 18)

Science offer experience in the day running of the programmes that will be in production at that time. This will involve accompanying teams on location, basic research work, running for the office team, transcribing interviews, etc. If you are interested in the administration and organisational side of production rather than the editorial then this may be the placement for you.

Horizon (over 18)

Horizon offers an opportunity to witness all parts of the television production process from idea generation to filming and editing. 

In-house - BBC Comedy Production London (Josh Series 3 - June only - over 18)

Production Department:

You will get a chance to gain experience on one of BBC’s - Sitcom “Josh series 3” shot on a stage & on location, within the Production Department. You will also have the opportunity to interact with other departments during the shoot and see a snapshot of what being a TV professional on location and on a stage is all about. Applicants should be confident, have a keen interest in Comedy and have excellent communication skills. You will also need to have a specific interest in this department.

Costume Department:

You will get a chance to gain experience on one of BBC’s - Sitcom “Josh series 3” shot on a stage & on location, within the Costume Department. You will also have the opportunity to interact with other departments during the shoot and see a snapshot of what being a TV professional on location and on a stage is all about. Applicants should be confident, have a keen interest in Comedy and have excellent communication skills. You will also need to have a specific interest in this department.

Design Department

You will get a chance to gain experience on one of BBC’s - Sitcom “Josh series 3” shot on a stage & on location, within the Design Department. You will also have the opportunity to interact with other departments during the shoot and see a snapshot of what being a TV professional on location and on a stage is all about. Applicants should be confident, have a keen interest in Comedy and have excellent communication skills. You will also need to have a specific interest in this department.

Make-Up Department

You will get a chance to gain experience on one of BBC’s - Sitcom “Josh series 3” shot on a stage & on location, within the Make-Up Department. You will also have the opportunity to interact with other departments during the shoot and see a snapshot of what being a TV professional on location and on a stage is all about. Applicants should be confident, have a keen interest in Comedy and have excellent communication skills. You will also need to have a specific interest in this department.

Camera Department

You will get a chance to gain experience on one of BBC’s - Sitcom “Josh series 3” shot on a stage & on location, within the Camera Department. You will also have the opportunity to interact with other departments during the shoot and see a snapshot of what being a TV professional on location and on a stage is all about. Applicants should be confident, have a keen interest in Comedy and have excellent communication skills. You will also need to have a specific interest in this department.

Silent Witness (Scripted, Drama - over 18)

Working on the production of Silent Witness, you’ll get to experience working alongside crew ranging from the Art Department, Costume, Make Up, Camera, Edit and Production.

The One Show - London (over 18)

The successful candidate will support the design team to contribute to the creativity needed in brainstorming the props and set dress required on a daily basis. They will predominantly spend their time assisting the design team by reporting to them on how to meet the day’s requirement, sourcing and buying props and going on prop runs as needed throughout the day. Additionally, they will observe a working gallery, go on a location shoot where possible and assist the studio runners

The Victoria Derbyshire Show (over 18)

This is a great opportunity to gain experience and be part of the Victoria Derbyshire programme. This will involve doing research work for upcoming films and projects; contributing their ideas on the daily meeting for the next day programme and accompanying reporters on location work.
